Manuel Barrueco and Cuarteto Latinoamericano

American composer Gabriela Lena Frank’s Inca Dances gets its Houston premiere

By Olivia Flores Alvarez

Published on April 10, 2008

Be there for the Houston premiere of Inca Dances today when Cuban guitarist Manuel Barrueco and Mexican string quartet Cuarteto Latinoamericano perform the work by American composer and Rice University graduate Gabriela Lena Frank. (Barrueco and Cuarteto Latinoamericano are set to record Frank’s Inca Dances sometime this year.)

Also on today’s program are Boccherini, Guastavino, Barrios and Piazzolla. Barrueco is a 2008 Grammy Award nominee for his CD Solo Piazzolla, so his performance of works by the Argentine composer should be especially exciting. 8 p.m. Cullen Theater, Wortham Theater Center, 501 Texas. For tickets and information, call 713-524-5050 or visit www.dacamera.com. $26.50 to $45.
Sat., April 12, 8 p.m., 2008
